Your Village Hall
Written by Nick Mayor
Tuesday, 23 February 2010

The Village Hall, which is situated at the bottom of Hannah's Lane, was officially opened on Wednesday, 10th December 1913 at 2:30 in the afternoon by Mrs. Graves-Knyfton of Uphill Manor. A contemporary newspaper article, originally published on Friday 12th December 1913, describes the opening ceremony in detail.

The 'New Hall', as it was known was originally owned by a group of worthy villagers who had contributed to its cost.  However, during the 1970's the trusteeship was given over to the Village Hall Committee.

Village Singers in Concert raise £138

Singing in Time 2009

On Saturday 28th November, the Village Singers, under the direction of Malcolm Mogford, held a concert in St. Lawrence Church; a good number of people came along to support the event despite the inclement weather that evening.  The audience were treated to a wide variety of songs including Spirituals, Hungarian Folk Songs, Madrigals, modern Popular Songs and Rounds, with some of the latter genre requiring audience participation.  The singing was interspersed with poetry readings, a couple of solo performances by Lauren Mayor, and half-time refreshments of mince pies and mulled wine.  At the end of the concert, the audience were full of praise making this very enjoyable event a great success for all.

The retiring collection raised the princely sum of £138.53 and this money was donated to The Friends of Westbury Church.

Hearing dogs for deaf people
Written by Janet Fisher
Monday, 07 December 2009

On Thursday 3rd December the Thursday Club held a sale in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Cards, wrapping paper and a good selection of gifts were on offer, also teas and home made cakes. We had a very pleasant afternoon; quite a lot of people came from the village, which was nice. Not many people know where Stoneleigh Community Room is, so we had to give detailed instructions. A total of £111.07 was raised. Altogether a very successful afternoon.

August 2009. How it all began
Written by Janet Fisher
Wednesday, 02 December 2009

Orgainised by Andrew Buchanan, the residents of The Square enjoyed a tea party on August Bank Holiday Monday. On a beautiful afternoon, chairs, tables - some with posh cloths,  tea services and home made cakes were wheeled out and set  beside the old disused 'phone box. Some of us who couldn't wait for the sun to go down over the yard arm brought alcoholic beverages.
