2009 Village Hall Coffee Morning |
|
On Wednesday, 10th June, John and Elizabeth Barkle once again hosted a coffee morning at Kings Hay to raise funds for the Village Hall. Despite the early showers more than 60 visitors attended the event and thanks to the efforts of John, Elizabeth and a few of their hard working family and friends, the event raised the grand sum of £308.
The weather this year was initially not as kind as that we'd experienced in 2008. The coffee morning opened under overcast skies and the early visitors braved the showers as they arrived. However, the weather improved as the morning progressed and the attendees were eventually able to get out and enjoy John and Elizabeth's garden which was in its usual immaculate state. It is worth mentioning that despite the early showers, the umpires refused to call a halt to play and the elderly gents continued their game of cricket on one of the lawns throughout the morning. The Village Hall Committee would like to thank the following people: John and Elizabeth for once again opening their home and garden to us and their son, Richard, for helping with the coffees and washing up. Everyone who came and supported the event, especially those who donated to the bring and buy and those who provided prizes for the raffle. Those who could not be there on the day but who made donations to this fund raising event. Jan Fisher for running the raffle. Members of the Committee who helped run the various supporting activities on the day. Last, but by no means least, one of John's friends who wishes to remain anonymous but who made a significant donation to boost the money raised on the day. |
