"That one's got legs" by Nicky Venning

A few weeks ago I parked my car in The Square, on the way to Westbury Society Archaeology. The renovated phone box looked great. Newly cleaned, lots of books. Maybe this was something for the Wells Journal.

As a community correspondent I’m always on the look out for news. My brief is simple. Happy stories about places and people around Wells. (Westbury is a bit out of my patch, I really cover Wookey Hole, … but sometimes I pinch a Westbury story…..…..oops, sorry Clare).

“That ones got legs,” said my boss at the Wells Journal, when I rang him to check. Of my three ideas, the phone box piece didn’t seem that much of a dead cert to me, but what the heck, he’s the boss!

But even professional journalist Ollie had no idea how popular that story would turn out to be. Legs! That phone box is a professional athlete, it must have run round the world twice, via virtually every major newspaper, since my story first appeared in print!

Now, Janet and Bob, what is my next piece?…….I’m thinking now of something for Panorama.
