WESTBURY
TO WELLS MULTI-USER PATH
A group of local people
have been campaigning for the last two years to develop an
off-road multi-user path to link the village with Wells, Cheddar
and the communities in between.
The aim is that as far as possible the route should make
use of the disused railway – the former Strawberry Line – but
where that is not available to make use of quiet droves and
country lanes.
Organised as a
branch of the Cheddar Valley Railway Walk Society, a registered
charity, they have been working with other like minded groups in
Rodney Stoke and Wells to press the case with some considerable
success.
It is the aim of
the group to work with landowners, and to secure progress through
agreement rather than confrontation.
We are a rural community and respect the needs of those who
make their living from the land.
Those
wishing to know more about our work, or to offer help, should
contact the Secretary of the group, Tony Shepherd on 01749 870871
or the Chairman, Mick Fletcher on 01749 870531. |
