FRIENDLY SOCIETY EVENTS 2001 Burns Night | Club Day | Barn Dance & BBQ | Senior Citizen's Outing | Quiz Night & Raffle
The Christmas Raffle draw for the £50 first prize and 70 other seasonal gifts was carried out during the interval and at the end of the quiz. Jim Paul won the top prize, and we're very grateful to Barry Lane for organising the raffle so efficiently. The Friendly Society would also like to thank everyone who donated such a wonderful array of prizes, and all those who supported the raffle by buying tickets. Donors and ticket buyers may like to know that the money raised covered the costs of this year's Senior Citizen's outing.
Fifty diners assembled in the Westbury Inn to celebrate the birthday of Scotland’s favourite poet. Anne Whyte said the Selkirk grace, after which the haggis was piped in by Claude Holmes. Iain Whyte addressed the haggis in suitably dramatic style, and looked positively dangerous in his handling of the dirk. After the meal, Alistair McGlanvile proposed the toast to the immortal memory of the bard, John McField proposed the toast to the lassies, to which Margaret McHaslam replied. The limerick competition attracted numerous entries, and was won by Mary Sparks. The low spot of the evening came when the Chairman, in the interests of raising funds, revealed what was under his kilt. Proceedings were brought to a close with the singing of Scottish songs. Our thanks to Larry and Jenny for putting on such a splendid meal. Amenities | Events Calendar | Visitors' Book | Location | Links
