After touring
Somerset looking for a place to live we have settled on
Westbury-sub-Mendip. Moving in on October 16th. The Web pages are
brilliant, the people we have 'met' are so friendly. Hope the
village meets our dreams! |

Greetings Westbury
from Sydney, Australia. My mother is Betty Loxton (nee Hole) and I
have very fond memories of spending school holidays at 'Granny's'
and eating all the lunches of the Red Lion regulars. My uncle Tom
(Hole) still lives in Westbury and we are proud of the tireless work
he does for St Lawrences church. My sister was married in that
church. I feel privileged to have known village life in it's
quaintest form. It's a far cry from hustle of Sydney, and a visit to
Westbury is something I would heartily recommend to
anyone. |

My early years
were spent in the Old Red Lion pub not as a customer I may add but
as the youngest daughter of that legendary landlord Mr Frank Hole
otherwise known as " Russian" it was an experience that I would not
have missed for all the world my brothers and sister had to work
hard but we enjoyed meeting everyone who came to the pub, HAPPY
DAYS!! |

Hello, this is the
Parsons from Springfield, MO. Our family goes way back in
Westbury. If you have any pictures or anything from Bill Tiley or
any of his kin we would really like to see or hear it. |

My wife & I recently
visited the village as a 'trip down memory lane' as I lived in Nut
Tree cottage from 1946 to 1953. We met the current owners and
exchanged history details of the cottage. We were made most
welcome and they stressed what a friendly place it is to live in.
We both wish you all every happiness in the future. |

Great to see such an informative web site - the web
page details were sent to me by my mother (native of the
village!) now living near Langport. My uncle (Tom Hole) (Hi
Uncle Tom!!) still lives in Westbury. Thought we would be the
first from New Zealand to visit your site but I see Barbara
& Jim Houghton have beaten us to it! lovely to see so many
photos. |

Hi Irma and friends,
Good to see you have all entered the "technology age"
and we can keep an eye on you from the other side of the planet.
Look forward to seeing you all in April 2001. |

In
early October 1994 we spent a week in Westbury-sub-Mendip at Crow
Cottage. Loved every moment. sauntered around Wells, went to
Cheddar, Wookey Hole and to Glastonbury, climbed the Tor twice
there really wasn't enough time we both found everything almost
magical feeling as if moved back in time. probably lucky we had
missed most of the tourists!! Thrilled to find your web-site.

Hello there Westbury, I'm the son of John Barkle a relatively recently
arrived Westbury resident. He sent me your web page address
which was most enjoyable for me to read and see pictures of the
village. I am a VSO archaeologist in Sri Lanka and miss the home
country so to speak quite a lot. It would be nice to go for a
quick pint or to the events in the village but I will have to
just read through the Westbury Inn's menu and look at the
pictures! If you would like any information on what I do out
here in the Tropics please don't hesitate to ask. I have lots of
photographs and have written a few pieces regarding life and
work over here and would be happy to share them. Keep up the
good work and have a pint for me in the Westbury.

This is fantastic! I have e-mailed all my friends abroad to access the
site and find out about my second home at Mum and Dad’s in
Westbury. Well done!

I enjoyed your site and hope to visit your village soon. Friends of ours,
Kinlay and Darren French are shop keepers in your village and
they sent the website to my attention. So "Hello" from

Hello from Malta. As a true
Westbury born person I was pleased and a bit surprised to see an
excellent site of my birth place on the web. So Westbury has hit
the 21st century and gone global - well done. Anyway keep it up
and it will be nice to visit regularly to update myself on
village events.

My
brother, Michael Green, of The Hollow told me to look at your
site. I find it very interesting indeed it really is amazing
what can be done to-day. I have only recently gone on-line. You
have a really nice village and we are coming down in June. Best
of luck to all.

Well done. I don't even have
a computer but Kate does and knows a lot more! This is my first
ever email. It's so exciting to see all the info about Westbury,
maybe now we can find out about Hardwich decendants ? Their
monument in the churchyard is in sad need of attention.
